So in short, I have my Picasa universe back and I'm extremely happy (. There are sites out there if you google it but no way would I use those sites for fear of malware and they are often ad for some other software. I really struggled to locate a space/site where I felt safe to download a copy of the sw. Keep in mind, my picasa db was quite extensive so it was no surprise that this happened and I should have done a better job (got lazy) of backing things up. It presented an error (if I recall) something like Picasa is unable to open your database and would not run at all. As to putting the failed machine's hd into another machine, I tried that earlier but quickly learned that the database was corrupt and required a new sw load. I have many (many) years of photo libraries on external hard-drives that never made it to web galleries/albums which is where I believe google migrated our photos over to google photos when they retired the platform. I also appreciate the other replies/responses which are excellent suggestions. That got me back to where I needed to be and I cannot express how grateful I am to that person. In summary, I am back in business thanks to the generosity and kindness of another fellow member who was able to provide me with the a zipped directory from an old machine that was about to be recycled.
